Find the talent.
Simplify the contracts.

A Contractor of Record (COR) is an intermediary that becomes the contracting counterparty to a genuinely independent professional. Rather than contracting directly, your business engages through an appropriate local contracting arrangement, with agreement, onboarding, invoice and payment administration coordinated on your behalf.

You define the project, deliverables and commercial expectations. Charter Pay coordinates contracting and local administration.

ILLUSTRATIVE PROJECT
ACCRA, GHANA

Imagine a Canadian software company needs an independent UX researcher in Accra for a defined project. It chooses the specialist and agrees deliverables and milestones. Following country and classification review, Charter Pay can coordinate an appropriate local contracting arrangement, documentation, invoices and payments. If the relationship looks more like employment, we would discuss an EOR alternative instead.

Contractor engagement enquiries

We welcome contractor enquiries across Africa. The appropriate legal contracting party, eligible engagements, invoicing and payment options and service terms are confirmed individually by country and role. We do not assume every project is legally suitable for independent contracting.

The right structure depends on the relationship.

The key questions are whether the professional is genuinely independent and who should hold the contract. We can help you consider Contractor of Record, direct contractor management or employment through EOR.

Good questions. Clear answers.

Every market has its own rules, and each contractor relationship has to be assessed on its facts. Here are the questions to consider before getting started.

What is a Contractor of Record?

A Contractor of Record is an intermediary that becomes the contractual counterparty to an independent professional, helping coordinate appropriate agreements, onboarding, invoicing and payments. Its role differs from that of an employer because the professional must genuinely qualify as an independent contractor.

Do I find the contractor or does Charter Pay?

You normally source and select the professional yourself. Charter Pay helps assess an appropriate independent contractor arrangement and coordinate the agreed contracting and administrative processes.

How is COR different from Contractor Management?

With Contractor Management, your business remains the direct contracting party, while we support administration. With COR, an intermediary acts as the contracting counterparty for the independent professional.

What if the person should legally be an employee?

Calling someone a contractor does not make them one. We consider the nature of the working relationship, including independence and control. If employment is more appropriate, we can discuss an Employer of Record solution instead.

How do invoicing, tax and IP terms work?

We coordinate contractor invoicing and payments, including applicable withholding and contractual administration.

How much does Contractor of Record cost?

Pricing depends on the country, contract structure, scope and number of contractors, together with the required payment and administrative support. Contact us for a tailored quote.
